Week 2: The Muppet Show

I’ve been planning for some time to remake 3 Muppet magical moments, which I originally created a few years ago using Pinnacle. This time Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro will be used to bring better quality editing and effects with improved CGI sets and no errors left in the final edit. Here is a diary of what I’ve been doing.

WEEK 2

Saturday, 4 April 2020
Having completed the huge CGI Muppet set using Sketchup, I’ve exported it as an mp4 video ready to insert into the existing film. Luckily the shots are the same, so all I have to do is make sure the characters are in their correct position in the set. I realised today rebuilding the set will make future work with the puppets a whole lot easier in the edit suite.

Sunday, 5 April 2020
I’ve put the last part of clips together to complete the second music video I filmed the other day. This is the first music video complete for the film.

Monday, 6 April 2020
Today I started adding props to one video, which given the vast number to add, I knew this would take me some time to complete.

Who will be playing the CGI piano?

Tuesday, 7 April 2020
I rendered the nearly finished video to see what adjustments are required. I’m quite happy that apart from removing 1 prop and recolouring the rest, this edit just requires an introduction before it is complete.

Wednesday, 8 April 2020
Today I added more details to the CGI set and set up more shots for some musical numbers. As a result, I had to make minor tweaks to videos I already edited.

Why is this detail important for the CGI set?

Taking a break from music video creations, I focused on a Quantum Leap effect a YouTuber from the USA requested in exchange for a signed Back To The Future t-shirt. It took me the full day to perfect. By the evening, a majority of the effect was completed with minor tweaks to do.

Thursday, 9 April 2020
The Quantum Leap project was finished this morning and sent to the YouTuber.

Work on the music videos continued starting with finishing filming the puppets required to complete the first two music videos.

The same puppets were then used again for a tune I think will send a message to the NHS and other key workers who are keeping the nation safe and well.

I finished filming a small comical number before I started editing these two videos.

Whilst I was able to complete the editing of one musical number filmed today, which has worked out really nicely, I was able to put together the set ready for two other numbers. One that I filmed today and the other I’m yet to film.

No social distancing was breached in the making of this audience!

Friday, 10 April 2020
Started editing the second film I recorded yesterday and also found the original footage on YouTube, which I’ve downloaded for guidance for the next music video, which is the all-time favourite number that I’ve loved since I was an infant.

The videos I view for this project help me to script which puppet does what and provides what shots are required.
